The Knowing Hand is a progressive rock band that started in a garage in Mountain
Home, Arkansas when the members of a local club's house band wanted to branch
out into a different kind of music. Tyler Derrik and Bob Pollard had known
each other previously and played together for a few years when they landed
a job playing with a local reggae house band at the Las Vegas Fire Grill.
Skyler Greene added his guitar to the ranks, and soon Jared Greenway was sitting
in as a sometimes vocalist. Growing weary of their adopted sound, all four
of them wanted to change the style of music to something they could better
identify with.
January 20th, 2009 would be a night to remember as The Knowing Hand performed
live for the first time in a local Battle of the Bands competition. Only
a couple of weeks old, the band showed a natural energy and talent for live
shows, even including a days-old single in their line-up! Since then, the
band has become a driving force in its local venues, headlining music festivals
and Thirsty Thursdays on a monthly basis. Local venues have even instated
Live Fridays and the like to attract followers of the Hand, or to give others
the experience.
The Knowing Hand takes a hard, technical approach to the modern rock sound.
Metal influences such as Tool are easily recognizable in the rhythm and
bass, while difficult stand-alone riffs and classical melodies with a
resemblance to Rush, Queen, and Pink Floyd are appartent inthe guitar.
Jared's voice has compared to Eddie Vedder's, with deep resonating mid-tones,
but coupled with a range of high notes and a unique texture thrown into
the mix. The sound portrays an excellent grasp on music theory and progressive
rock's notorious eccentric time signatures. Recently, the band has been
continuing to write for their first album The Knowing Hand, and
expects to take a tour of the colleges in and around Arkansas, further
increasing their fan base and proving that their demographic is all-encompassing.
